From the seedy ‘Schipperskwartier’ (sailor’s quarter) to the architectural marvel of Cogels-Osylei, from the medieval Steen (Stone) castle to cosmopolitan Borgerhout. Antwerp has something for everyone. Hop on your bike, grab your tram ticket or just strap on your boots and you’ll see that a stay of even four academic years won’t suffice to get to know the different areas of Antwerp. Homeliness and bombast in Berchem, souks and art in Borgerhout, lush green on Linkeroever or the renovating of ‘t Eilandje and Nieuwe Zuid. Even the New York Times agrees: Antwerp is Europe’s place to be.
